Prospect Spotlight: Johnathan Clark (2019)
Northside-Pinetown High School is no secret to those from eastern North Carolina. Just a few years ago, current NBA rookie Edrice “Bam” Adebayo starred at Northside leading the school to consecutive regional appearances. Even now they boast star sophomore guard Rashod Smith, but 6’1” junior guard Johnathan Clark is irreplaceable in his own right.
First and foremost, Clark has excellent court vision. This strength of his game tends to be overshadowed by his athleticism and aggressive style of play. He has managed to do a great job and creating easy scoring opportunities for his teammates while also ensuring that he creates the same opportunities for himself.
He also defends at a high level. He takes pride in matching up against opposing teams best scorers and does a solid job moving his feet. For a guard, he’s an exceptional weakside shot blocker that will force opponents to have to either dunk or shoot uncomfortably high floaters off the glass to avoid getting their shot blocked.
Offensively, he makes shots from all over the floor, mainly from mid-range and he’s really fast with the ball. He has thrown down some thunderous dunks this season that completely have changed the course of tough games. Should Northside-Pinetown make a deep run in the high school playoffs, much of the bulk will be on the shoulders of this do-it-all junior guard.
He’s currently averaging 16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists & over 2 steals per game. He’s always going to stand out, no matter the setting because he plays so hard and has a high basketball IQ. Colleges that love players who are self motivated, give 100% on both ends of the floor and don’t mind taking a dive on every loose ball, Johnathan Clark is a junior guard to take a nice long look at.
