Prospect Spotlight: Jake Snyder (2019)
Jake Snyder (2019) put himself on the radar of college coaches after a strong performance in Akron Archbishop Hoban’s win over Villa-Angela-St. Joseph at the Dunk 4 Diabetes Shootout.
The 6’0” Snyder scored 17 points in a win over Villa-Angela-St. Joseph on Jan. 28. He displayed a smooth 3-point stroke, an ability to handle the ball in traffic as well as run an offense.
He’s the team’s second-leading player averaging 12 points an outing on a Hoban team that’s ranked in the top 10 in the Cleveland.com Top 25.
Division III schools are beginning to show an interest in Snyder, who started last year as a 10th grader on a team that went 22-2. He recently spoke with Baldwin Wallace he said.
“I’m more of a shooter, but I can also put the ball on the floor and create for other players and know the game pretty well,” said Snyder, when asked to describe his game.
Snyder will need to put on some weight to play in college, but he certainly has the skill to play somewhere at the next level.
“He’s got a lot of upside and he works hard on his game,” said Archbishop Hoban coach T.K. Griffith.
Snyder said it was fun to play so well in the Dunk 4 Diabetes game against VASJ, which was packed with college coaches, many from big-time programs, who’d come to scout.
“It was cool to see Bob Huggins sitting in the front row,” said Snyder.
Snyder plans on playing AAU for TNBA this coming spring and summer. His teammates call him J.J. Reddick, in deference to consistently splash down jump shots. He definitely wants to play college basketball.
He wasn’t the only player who flashed in the Hoban win over VASJ. Dominick Moegerle (2020), a 6’3″ ultra-athletic wing, came off the bench and provided energy. It was just his second game this season as he sat out the first half of the season after transferring from Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary. He got going with a dunk on an alley-oop and runs the floor well and also hit a 3-pointer.
