Prospect Spotlight: Griffin Barker (2019)
Griffin Barker (6’7) – Eastside Catholic
Barker has extreme work ethic, playing at a high level on both ends of the floor. Barker can also play the small forward position, which allows him to score in different ways. He’s hunts down rebounds and can battle with the best for boards. Barker’s should have a good junior year campaign and his game should continue to grow. He has some good tools down on the block and can also step out and drain the mid range jump shot.
Now Standing 6’7 Barker has the size advantage on most opposing wings, giving him the ability to get his smooth jump shot off on just about anybody. He looks to become quicker and more shifty with his ball handling and movements this off season. You can tell that he wanted to have a big junior year because his game has matured. That is what a good summer full of workouts can do. Your game will mature and blossom. With a few added inches he will definitely be a good swing man.
“The kid’s a horse, man,” Juanita coach Sloan Strohl said. “He’s a big kid and we put our strongest kid on him, but he’s got a motor and everything you want in somewhat of an undersized post player. Great passer, great heart, motor, leader. He’s going to be tough for the next two years.”
Barker has been flying under the radar for far too long now. Here’s to hoping college coaches take notice soon. Barker has D-1 length at the SF position and is capable of knocking down shots from deep. He’ll need to put on some strength, but that will come. I look forward to seeing how is recruitment starts to trend upward. He has been putting up some solid numbers for Eastside catholic.
