Prospect Spotlight: Daniil Kasatkin (2018)
Pat Chambers and his staff at Penn State landed their best ever recruiting class with this incoming 2018 class. The class is consisted of Rasir Bolton, Myles Dread, Tolu Jacobs and Daniil Kasatkin. This is a class that can see roles immediately filled when the players first step foot on campus.
This past weekend we saw Daniil of Mountain Mission play at the Chance Harman Classic, where he was one of the standouts. We were very impressed with his unique style of play as he would consider himself a “6’7 point guard”, “All my life I played point guard but I am 6’7 at the same time, so I can make plays, I can play off the ball and I can play multiple positions. I can play the 1 and all the way to the 4 if needed, so I am a pass first point guard and also have a pretty good shot I think.”
Right before Thanksgiving, Kasatkin gave a verbal commitment to Penn State and spoke on that decision with us, “I mean, there are great things going on at Penn State. I went on a visit and everyone was great there, like everything they have in a university, they have it there.”
Daniil is very excited to get things going at Penn State and has set some expectations for when he arrives on campus, “I just want to win, it does not matter what role, I just want to win the games and just help the program become better.”
Another aspect of the Nittany Lions that stood out to him was the way Chambers and his staff are going to use him, “I will probably be off the ball a lot as a shooter at first, but as my career at the university goes on, I will probably be used on the ball too.”
When asked what Penn State fans should expect out of him he had an important message to them, “I am a loyal guy, I will work hard and I will do my best to win many games.”
