Prospect Spotlight: Ahmad Watkins (2021)
Ahmad Watkins might be one of the best freshman flying under the radar in the Sunshine State.
A 6’3″, 155-pounder at Dunbar, Watkins is averaging 11.7 PPG, the second-best mark on the team.
I saw him play against Riverdale during the opening week of the regular season and he scored a cool 20 points. In his varsity debut, the freshman dropped 14 points in the second quarter alone which included four confident 3’s.
In terms of what he said improved the most in his game over the last year, he pointed to his ability to move without the ball and finish near the rim.
He spent the summer with the Florida Future, a program he’s been a part of since the 4th grade.
No offers or interest have come yet for Watkins yet. However, the 2021 forward is lengthy, skilled and quite a frankly a sound shooter. The sky is the limit for Watkins. He needs to continue to develop his lower and upper body, but his skillset is unique and he should be able to continue to mature heading into the summer.
