Prospect Spotlight: 2021 Dayshawn Wiley
2021 6’2″ Guard Dayshawn Wiley of Desert Pines high has some skills to work with. His name may not be a household name in Las Vegas. This young man is quietly becoming a player in his class that will be spoken about very often in the near future. Being long, and athletic gives him an opportunity to go a long way in this game. Having the ability to step outside and knock down shots makes him a threat. This is something that he is demonstrating doing the 1st half of the season. Head coach Mike Uzan has given Dayshawn the keys to the team. Leadership is something that he will have to learn, and it comes with growing pains.
Confidence is one thing that this young man does not lack on the floor. His ability to push the ball in transition makes him a threat, he has good Court vision for a young man his age. He is averaging 11.9 ppg 5.4 apg and 3.1 rpg these numbers are among the top for freshman in the class of 2021, who are playing on the Varsity level.
As he continues to grow his wiry frame gives him the ability to look over defenders and make passes that most guards at his age can’t make. Dayshawn can be a little bit out of control at times, but for the most part this young man plays with poise and is very assertive on the offensive end. Defense is something that he takes pride in he has the ability to move his feet well. At 6’2″ his wingspan is something that creates problems. I personally believe that he has the ability to be an outstanding on-ball Defender.
This coming spring/summer he will run with the Las Vegas Olympians AAU program. This is a very good independent program that will help develop him to be a more effective player for the future. We will continue to track Dayshawn progress as he grows and mature as a player.
