Prospect Spotlight: 2019 Triston Broughton
LAS FLORES, CA— The Class of 1988 is one of the strongest recruiting classes in the history of high school basketball—and Southern California was a big reason why. The class included such standout NBA players as Don MacLean, Darrick Martin, and Adam Keefe. However, the highest rated player in the class was none other than Chris Mills who went on to be yet another NBA standout from this So-Cal class.
Twins Tyler and Triston Broughton may not ring a bell quite yet in their respective basketball careers, but they do have some excellent genes in that their father is the aforementioned Mr. Mills. Twins Tyler and Triston are 6-foot-3 juniors out of Tesoro High School who also have their fair share of basketball acumen.
“My brother and I are always playing hoops outside trying to improve our overall game,” noted Triston.
Triston put together a fine all-around game at the North/South Orange County Challenge. He has a nice frame with good length and his skill set is evolving as well. He attacks the basket well and can finish through contact and he knocked in a couple of jump shots as well.
“Last season I was strictly a driver trying to get to the rim, but now my outside shot is starting to come around,” noted Triston
After speaking with Triston it became apparent that he has a passion for this game and you can sense the urgency of how much he wants to improve.
Broughton has put a lot of time in the gym working on his game and it’s paying off“Coach Garrett (Steve) has been pushing me hard to be a leader and get in as many shot attempts as possible and now I’m seeing the results,” explains Triston.
Despite his improved game, he says there are other parts of the game that he wants to improve upon to take his game to another level. “There are many aspects of my game that I need to improve on, especially on the other side of the court.
“One area that I’m really focused on now is improving my ability to defend all five positions,” explains Tyler.
Tesoro has a young squad that also includes improving 6-foot-9 sophomore Hugo Clarkin and gifted sophomore Kaden Garrett. With the continued improvement of the Broughton brothers, Tesoro should be a team that will be on the radar sooner than later.
