Prospect Intro: Terquavion Smith (2021)
Farmville Central High School is the alma mater of VCU freshman guard Tyler Maye, one of the top guards in the state last season. 2020 guard Justin Wright is another guard at the school that has been on college radars. Freshman Terquavion Smith is on his way to being in the same breath as the already mentioned guards out of Farmville Central High School. Head Coach Larry Williford has had some of the best guards in the state come through his school and he knows a talented player when he sees it.
Smith is averaging 19.4 points per game this season for Farmville High School who are off to a 7-3 overall record so far this season. The 6-foot-2 Smith is a scoring guard that can get into the paint and can make things happen with the ball in his hands. He is a skilled guard that has strong fundamentals and has a good handle with the basketball in his hands. “The keys to my game is my three-point shot and my mid-range game. I need to get stronger but there is a lot I can improve on,” Smith said.
Not many freshman play varsity basketball. To start at the varsity level as a freshman is rarely heard of. Smith is doing just that, “My freshman year has been a breeze, we had a couple of bumps in the road but it has been good,” said Smith. He also added, “At school I don’t want to be known as a cocky person so I humble myself and I want to be treated as any of my classmates and be held accountable.”
What would be his dream school? “I would hope to hear from NC State, UCLA or Duke one day.” Smith said.
Smith has helped Farmville Central to wins over Washington (twice), DH Conley, Ayden-Grifton (twice) and North Lenoir with their only losses coming from Greene Central High School.
