Prospect Evaluations: Brunswick vs. Cleveland Central Catholic
It was a back and forth contest in the second game of the Play by Play Classic, but Cleveland Central Catholic prevailed 56-52.
Senior guards Jerry Coleman (17) and Anthony Billups (10) led the way with 27 combined points. But it was the Ironmen defense that was the difference, as they improved to 8-2 and Brunswick dropped to 7-2.
In a game with entirely unsigned prospects, let’s take a look at the top performances.
Delshawn Jackson (2018), 6’2” G, Cleveland Central Catholic
Jackson turned it around after a scoreless first half, putting up seven points in the third with contested jumpers and a strong and-one finish. The unsigned senior also creates looks at the basket with secondary moves once he picks up his dribble. As always, Jackson hounded his matchup with tight on-ball defense and was there on the help-side drive.
Zak Zografos (2018), 6’6” F, Brunswick
Zografos struggled to get going, as his spot-up triples were off and Central pushed him away from the basket. Central’s frontline roughed him up physically, making him pretty ineffective in the paint. Instead, Zografos was mostly useful as a straight-line driver when the defense closed out. He looked to pass mostly on the drive but also dropped in an and-one in the third.
Kyle Goessler (2019), 6’1” G, Brunswick
Goessler is going to be a nice fit at the Division III level as a spot-up shooter, even though he struggled today from deep. He finished with 9 points, a couple of which came on a confident one-dribble pull-up. Goessler is also a quick and gritty defensive player, drawing a charge in the opening minutes and stripping away another fastbreak layup attempt.
Alex Wyatt (2018), 6’3” G, Brunswick
Wyatt was one of many Brunswick players spreading the floor with his jumper. He finished tied for a team-high 12 points. Wyatt was good off the ball, cutting to the rim for finishes and setting screens to get others open.
