The Process: How to manage being recruited
Some players will practice and practice and practice and never be good enough to get a college to recruit them for their play. If you are one of the lucky ones that can or will be recruited at the next level here are some pointers for you as you begin the recruiting process.
- Take as many visits as possible-One of the biggest reasons for todays’ transfer rate is the fact that some high school juniors and seniors did not take enough visits to the college that they are currently playing for. Take visits as freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors. Seeing a campus and getting a feel for the type of environment that you are probably going to be spending the next for years of your life at will be worth it.
- Get to know the staff-Being able to truly get to know the staff that you are choosing is going to be a big key over the next four years. As a matter of fact, there is a good chance that the staff that you have signed your letter of intent with may not be there by the time that you are set to graduate. Make sure you have a good feel or a staff and understand if they are on the “hot seat” or if their job is in good standing.
- Have your phone with you-Coaches love to communicate with players when the season is in full-swing by text message. Being able to respond to these texts and calls is going to be very important for the assistant coaches to better get an idea of what kind of person you are. Respond to messages with “Yes Sir or No Sir”. This is like a job interview for you and you need to be on your beset behavior when responding to coaches and on social media.
- Don’t Let it overwhelm you-Do not let this process become harder than it is. Play your game and let that do the majority of the talking for you.
