Palmetto State : 2018 Players JUCO
Prep Hoops SC is covering the Palmetto State like a glove all year long. Currently Prep Hoops has seen over 160 teams play this season in the Palmetto State. Lets take a look at some players that might need to entertain junior college this coming season according to their Head Coach.
Jerrel Kelly – Laurence Manning Academy (Manning) (pictured on front)
Kelly 6’9 left-handed post needs to make the test score still according to Swamp Cats Head Coach Will Epps. Earlier in the season Old Dominion, Canisius (Head Coach Reggie Witherspoon) and Texas Tech (Head Coach Chris Beard) all came into see Kelly. Kelly played AAU with Upward Stars Southeast this past summer.
Kelly is averaging 13.6 ppg, 12.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists this season for the 14-5 Swamp Cats.
Diamante Brown – AC Flora
Brown 6’6 has received interest from Chipola College (FL), Florida Southwestern and Lincoln Memorial (TN) (NCAA D2) according to Head coach Josh Staley. Brown a very versatile player is averaging 8.5 rebounds this season for the Falcons.
Ryan McCray- Ben Lippen (Columbia)
McCray 5’10 recently got hurt and was averaging 17.9 ppg for the Falcons this season. McCray has a knack to score the ball.
Tristian Nieves – Colleton County (Walterboro)
Nieves has the Cougars 14-5 on the season and is averaging 15.8 ppg. Nieves has a 2.4 GPA and 18 ACT according to Head Coach Jacob Smith.
Yohannes Utsey – Orangeburg-Wilkinson
Utsey 6’6 is almost averaging a double-double for the 16-4 Bruins. Utsey is at 13 ppg and 9 rebounds a game.
Rashane Duncan – Wade Hampton HS (Varnville)
Duncan 6’9 slender-sleek forward moves well around the court. Duncan played the past 3 summers with Upward Stars Southeast on the AAU Circuit. Duncan attends Wade Hampton HS in the Lowcountry near Savannah, GA. Duncan is better defensively than offensively.
Dijon Goss – Carver’s Bay
Goss 6’4 small forward has the Bears #2 in the SCHSL 2- A Poll. Goss a North-South member on the gridiron is averaging 14.7 ppg and 10.5 rebounds for the Bears.
Raymond Williams – Berea HS
Williams 5’10 undersized scoring guard transferred back after starting the season at Legacy Early College. Williams not eligible to play averaged over 20 ppg last season.
Ahkeem Lawson – Lakewood HS (Sumter)
Lawson 6’6 left-handed post player has made strides this season at times. Good looking frame and soft touch from 10-12 feet.
De’iajae Ferguson – Colleton County (Walterboro)
Ferguson compliments Nieves very nicely on the floor. Ferguson still short on the test had a big football season
Shaquille Johnson – Green Sea-Floyds (Green Sea)
Johnson is a physical specimen for the Trojans. Johnson played football as a wide receiver before being removed from the team half way through the season. Johnson played at West Bladen HS (NC) for arriving at GS-F.
Kris’Shawn Hickman – Darlington HS
Hickman 6’4 really excels in the transition game and plays above the rim at times. Hickman is averaging 8.7 ppg and 5.1 rebounds for the 14-5 Falcons this season.
Jalian Smith – Darlington HS
Smith 6’5 is a great rim runner for the Falcons. Smith is averaging 11.8 ppg and 7.4 rebounds this season.
Kerry Eaddy – Dutch Fork HS
Eaddy a left-handed undersized post plays with a mean streak at times in the post. Eaddy is not afraid to mix it up and draw contact. Eaddy is averaging 11.6 ppg this season for the Silver Foxes.
Nick Stewart – West Florence HS
Stewart a wing player is averaging 12.3 ppg and 7.5 rebounds for the Knights.
Anthony Flagler – Eau Claire HS
Flagler has yet to get eligible for the Shamrocks. Flagler 6’7 played at Keenan HS last year and this summer with Team Vision. Flagler likes to play on the perimeter.
Nasir Boyce – AC Flora
VERY ATHLETIC – 9 rebounds a night.
