Northstar Weekly Honors candidates: Jan. 1–7
Drew Sagedahl, BOLD — Just a freshman, Drew tied the state record for consecutive 3-pointers made in a game with 10 against Montevideo on January 5.
Marcus Johnson, St. Agnes — The senior guard had 36 points on 16 shots versus Blake in a close loss and then had 31 on 15 shots versus St. Paul Washington in a win.
Noah Slagter, Willmar — Noah scored 16 points in a win against Rocori to secure the all-time Willmar scoring record, topping Laura Nielsen’s previous mark of 1,628.
Matt Todd, Monticello — Todd put up 31 points and 13 assists against Zimmerman on Jan. 4. The senior surpassed Nate Holmstadt’s 1995 record of 2,106 points for the top overall spot in Monticello history.
Damani Hayes, Mankato East — Hayes led East with 22 points against Orono (ranked 5th in the AAA rankings) and 15 against Rochester John Marshall (ranked 4th in AAAA). Mankato East is now an impressive 10-0 and will likely be ranked third in the new rankings.
Dawson Garcia, Prior Lake — The 6-foot-10 forward had 30 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Eastview and 25 points in a win over Bloomington Jefferson. Prior Lake is currently 6-1 on the year.
