Monrovia Holiday Classic: Underclassmen Evaluations
The holiday season is over and we are going back through our notes and putting together our evaluations from the last week’s events. Today, we look at the Monrovia Holiday Classic and the 2020 and 2021 prospects from our day at Monrovia.
2020
Josh Smith – 6’3 SG 2020 – Monrovia
Smith is a really long guard who likes to stay around the perimeter but crashes the boards hard for his position. He can score inside but just doesn’t go inside the arc very much. A guy who is still improving and will be really good once he works in a consistent shot and makes two or three a game. – 6 points, 4 rebounds
Champ McCorkle – 6’3 SF 2020 – Greenwood Christian
McCorkle is a tall thin wing who played really well in this game. He looks the part of a guy who could over time develop into a really good player. He’s active in the passing lanes and can cause havoc on defense. Looks like he’ll grow a few more inches and when he does he could be a really solid prospect. – 18 points
2021
Travis Ely – 5’6 PG 2021 – Brown County
Ely is a small lead guard who can stay on the ball going forward. Doesn’t shoot it that much but he is perfect in this offense because he runs it so well. He will grow a could more inches and if he gets to 5’10 or so he could be really good down the line when he adds a little more offense to his game. – 5 points
Styles McCorkle – 6’2 SF 2021 – Greenwood Christian
The younger brother of Champ, the sophomore standout, Styles is going to be another solid contributor down the road to this team. McCorkle is a wing with a bit more room to grow. He’s being slowly worked into the rotation before he plays a bunch of minutes at the varsity level. A kid with a solid body to grow from. – 2 points, 3 rebounds
