Midseason Cobb POY Nominees Part 1
Here a few kids who made the Midseason Cobb County, GA player of the year list for public schools only.
2018 C EJ Montgomery – Wheeler High School
Montgomery has been having an incredible season this year for Wheeler. Last season was not really a big year for the 6’10 center due to all the star power the Wildcats had. But this year is a different year. EJ is leading Cobb County in scoring at 25.6 points per game. He also leads Cobb with the most 20+ point performances at 11 so far this season and also 30+ point performances with 4. Montgomery just made the front runner to win Cobb County player of the year.
2018 PG Jahwan Smith – Kell High School
Jahwan is one of the senior leaders for his Kell squad. The 5’8 point guard is averaging about 15 points per game so far this season. His biggest game this season so far was his 33 point performance in a win against North Cobb. Smith also finished with 22 points in a lost for Kell against Lamber in the Tournament of Champions at Wheeler. Jahwan is a quick point guard who is able to get to the rack at a guard his size and finish.
2019 WG Jalyn McCreary – Kennesaw Mountain High School
The Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs are an overall 9-2 halfway through the season. Jalyn is definitely one of the reasons why. Kennesaw only won a total of 10 games last season. McCreary was not able to play due to eligibility issues but this season he has made a major impact. Jalyn is averaging 19.5 points per game, which is 5th in Cobb County in scoring. He is one of the best combo forwards on the come up in the peach state and already holds a few offers from D1 programs. Jayln also ranks 4th among players with six 20+ point performances this season so far.
2019 WG Donovan Grant – Campbell High School
Donovan Grant of Campbell high School is kind of a sleeper prospect. But I would not sleep on this kid. Grant is a lenghty wing with long arms and has a real impact on the defensive end of the floor. He is one of the reasons Campbell is an overall 12-4 halfway through the season. Donovan is averaging 16.6 points per game so far and with four 20+ point performances, one of those coming against Wheeler where he finished with 25 points.
2018 CG Micah McCuen – Sprayberry High School
The Sprayberry High School point guard has earned some respect with his play on the court this season. What used to be just an LA Fitness player, McCuen is averaging 15.3 points per game so far and is one of the best rebounding guards in the state of Georgia with already having eight games with at least 8 rebounds or more. Micah has a few JUCO schools interested in him so far.
