Marquee Matchups: Week 9 in Northwest Ohio
Division III and Division IV contenders will continue making the picture clearer during week nine in Northwest Ohio.
Jan. 26: Versailles at Minster
There will be a collective three losses on the floor come Friday night’s Midwest Athletic Conference (MAC) showdown. The Ahrens brothers from Versailles will likely try to pull Minster’s frontline away from the rim with their jump shooting and playmaking ability outside. Meanwhile, Minster can exploit a mismatch inside by running their offense through 6’9” center Jarod Schulze and 6’6” forward Cody Frericks.
The game should hinge on pace and Minster’s full-team defensive effort of stopping Justin Ahrens. However, Versailles doesn’t have an answer for Schulze on the other end.
Jan. 27: Wapakoneta at St. Henry
Wapakoneta handed Elida (then ranked #3 in Division II) their first loss of the season last week, reminding us of their viability in the D-II Northwest Ohio region. They proved capable of knocking off Elida and could possibly give Wauseon a game in the tourney. They’ll take on Division IV power St. Henry, led by Tyler Schlarman. St. Henry’s only two losses have come against Marion Local and Fort Loramie.
Jan. 27: Northmor at Mansfield St. Peter’s
Huge out of conference game on Saturday night for both undefeated teams. It’s the rare occasion where both teams play their toughest game of the season on the same night. On one end, you have a surprise Regional contender in Division III from Central Ohio, led by seniors Kyle Kegley, Tyler Kegley, Brock Pletcher and Meechie Johnson. St. Peter’s is trying to run the table in the regular season on back-to-back years with seniors Jared Jakubick, Mason Campbell, and Elijah Cobb.
