Marquee Matchups: Week 7 in Central Ohio
A surprisingly short list of Marquee Matchups this week in Columbus, of which two involve the Division I Regional favorite.
Dec. 9: Pickerington North at Dublin Coffman
Coffman will need to capitalize on their point guard advantage with sophomore Dominiq Penn, as Pick North’s size and depth should cause problems. Senior Nick Carlson and junior wings Will Hunter and Derek Van Vlerah will need to create a presence on the board to deal with the Panther Division I frontcourt of Eli McNamara and Jerome Hunter.
Dec. 12: Columbus South at Africentric
Our only Columbus City League game of the week features two-way point guards like Africentric’s Manning “Tre” Baumgardner III and South’s Jaedyn Carter and Naiquan Galloway. Also, there’s opposing Division II forward signees with Jah Bennett (Kentucky State) and Wesley Williams (Saint Leo). Other prospects include a pair of athletic sophomore wings with Africentric’s Cali Davis and South’s Marcus Johnson.
Along with Eastmoor Academy, these are two of the top three teams in the City League’s South Division.
Dec. 13: Pickerington North vs. Princeton at Flyin’ to the Hoop
Darius Bazley. Jerome Hunter. Ohio’s #1 senior versus the #2. Two State Championship contenders. This is what Flyin’ to the Hoop is about.
Saturday at 4:45p.m. is the top Ohio versus Ohio matchup in the entire event, as two premier teams with comparable rosters matchup. Projecting the starting lineup individual matchup goes like this: Isaiah Kennedy-Ty Wiley, Darweshi Hunter-Dondre Palmer, Dominic Pierce-Jack Sawyer, Darius Bazley-Jerome Hunter, and Gabe O’Neal-Eli McNamara.
