Manual Extravaganza Evaluations: Fort Wayne North vs. Cathedral
In the sixth game of the Manual Extravaganza, FW North took on Cathedral in a matchup of top teams in 4A. FW North was on paper coming into the season one of the favorites to win state. Cathedral played spoiler in this one and used a 22-14 third quarter to win the game 65-56. Keion Brooks led all scorers with 28 points.
FW North
Brandan Johnson – 6’2 SG 2018 – FW North (Committed to University of Saint Francis)
Johnson is a quick guard who will be better suited to play off the ball in college. He can shoot it a little bit but he is really good at getting to the rim off the drive. In this game, he really struggled at finishing at the rim but did a super job of converting at the free throw line. A solid guard that will control the game for you. – 6 points, 4 rebounds
Keion Brooks – 6’7 SF 2019 – FW North
Brooks is a top 2019 player in the nation and you can kind of tell by the way he plays the game. Struggled a bit early on but then got into a groove finishing the game 10/12 from the floor. He got to the line a ton in this one as well and made his attempts from the line. Really gets into the lane and makes those contested shots as well. A very high motor player who can really get after it on the offensive end. Will score 20 or more points almost every night and make it look really easy. – 28 points, 5 rebounds
Lucas Kroft – 6’5 SF 2019 – FW North
Kroft is a bit of a wildcard to this point. He’s a solid player but just doesn’t do enough to garner lots of D1 looks. In this one, I thought he played really well inside the perimeter. Kroft still needs to develop an outside shot and be a little tougher when encountering another player. He had a few solid baseline drives, one of which led to a dunk. He’ll score points but he just hasn’t elevated his game yet to the potential I think he can. He’s a D2 floor/LM ceiling type of guy. – 11 points, 6 rebounds
Cathedral
Jarron Coleman – 6’5 SF 2018 – Cathedral (Committed to Ball State)
Coleman is a tall wing that does really well with getting to the rim and has a pretty good midrange jumper. Coleman is able to impact games in other ways rather than just offensively though as he is a very good defender and can disrupt your offense in a press. Only knock on him is his outside shooting, he can be streaky from outside of fifteen feet. He needs to work on that but as a bully getting to the rim, he will be really good. – 16 points, 4 rebounds
Jayden Edwards – 6’2 SG 2018 – Cathedral
Edwards is a guard who can score a little bit but doesn’t showcase it because he is sitting behind a couple of D1 players. Edwards is strong with a good body and makes all the right plays. He could be a nice pickup for a small school as he could score a lot and be a high energy player with the right fit. – 5 points
James Franklin – 5’11 SG 2019 – Cathedral
Franklin is a small off guard who can score with the best of them. He is full of energy and gets to the rim pretty well even though he is usually smaller than the players that guard him. Franklin is one of the toughest players on the floor at all times and is a guy who will outwork others. Franklin may not play in college but he will impress night in and night out. – 7 points
Armaan Franklin – 6’5 SG 2019 – Cathedral
Franklin was one of my favorite players from the day and his stock continues to explode this year. He can get to the rim really easily and he finishes well with both hands. He is able to dribble drive to the rim and also pull-up to keep you on your toes. Rebounds the ball really well from the guard spot and can get out and push it. A definite mid major player who is trending towards being a high major player. As solid as they come in the state. – 25 points, 8 rebounds
