The Bulldogs are one of the hottest teams in the Valley having won 7 straight games. The Knights enter the Saturday afternoon contest looking to rebound from 2 straight losses. The Goldwater Bulldogs have three seniors averaging double figures Myles Malachesen (15.8ppg 7.9 rpg), Mason Crawford (11.1) and Timothy Yoder (11.2ppg). the Knight have even scoring across the board with Jr. Noah Boyd (14ppg), Sr. Abraham Rodriguez (12ppg), Sr. Derryk VonKolan (10.7ppg), and Sr. Ryan Hopp (10ppg)
The Bulldogs took a 35-27 halftime lead thanks to the otherworldly quickness of point guard Jarrell McConney and the inside/outside duo of Mason Crawford and Myles Malachesen. The 2nd half got no better for the Knights as the Bulldogs continued to be too much winning 69-54.
Best Impressive: Mason Crawford (Goldwater)-showed a nice all around game knocking down several shots from deep as well as a nice handle.
Speed Award: Jarrell McConney (Goldwater)- the generously listed at 5’6” the point guard is the fastsest end-to-end player I’ve seen so far this season. Communicates loudly on the floor as well which is something every coach loves!
Best Shoes: Ryan Hopp, Devin Alirez, & Derryk VonKolan (Havasu)- wearing the purple Kobe AD’s to compliment their black jerseys with purple pinstripes
Best Post: Myles Malachesen (Goldwater)-listed at just 6’5” but physically looks and plays much bigger.
Mr. Mid-range: Derryk VonKolan (Havasu)- the 6’2” wing finds a way to score with his spot up jumper from inside the arc. Also showed ability to put his head down and get to the basket.
Was impressed with Lake Havasu’s guard tandem of Ryan Hopp and Abraham Rodriguez. Both are competent ball handlers who see the floor and handle pressure well.
Tim Yoder also had a nice game for the Bulldogs. The 6’6” fundamentally sound forward had no problem finishing opportunities off of drive-and-kicks from his teammates to score on layups and set shots.
