Five Takeaways: Tulsa Memorial vs Tulsa Central
A Top-5 Match-up between two Tulsa Public Schools was supposed to be one of the best games of the year. The crowd was packed and split down the middle. Both sets of fans were going crazy and the gym was loud. The first quarter was tightly contested and set on a knife’s edge. The second quarter was when Memorial took control of the game. They dominated the second quarter and built a big lead going into halftime. In the second half there was no let up either. The Chargers went on to beat the Braves 76-49
- Lob City
Tulsa Memorial made this game look like something out of the NBA. They were throwing Alley-oops and having put-back dunks like they were in the league. Kalib Boone 2019 Tulsa Memorial Post was the perpetrator of the dunks and brought the house down multiple time throughout the game. The first dunk came at a time when the game was fairly close and it swung the momentum Tulsa Memorial’s way. Memorial then stretched their lead to take complete control of the game. Tulsa Central tried to respond with some dunks of their own, but all ended up poorly for the Braves.
- The Two Point Guards
The match-up between Point Guards was one that lacked size, but not Talent. Shemar Walker 2018 Tulsa Memorial Guard stands at 5’7, and Keve Shields 2021 Tulsa Central Guard at 5’6 both performed at high levels tonight. Walker led the offense of Memorial and hit open shots throughout the night. Shields was exceptional for Central tonight as he showed skills beyond his age. He showed off some dazzling handles and besides some poor shot selection a couple times, he shot the ball well. Walker finished with 13 points for Memorial and Shields finished with 12 points for Central on the night.
- The Boone Twins
Every Memorial game that is covered it seems the Boone’s have a huge game. This game was no exception. Both Boones played at very high levels throughout the night. Kalib Boone was the better of the two on the night lighting up the gym with some monster dunks. Keylan Boone 2019 Tulsa Memorial Wing was not far behind though. He showed his touch from the outside and even got some tough baskets inside the paint. Kalib finished with 19 points and Keylan finished with 16 points on the night.
- A Bright Spot
Jaylen Thomas 2019 Tulsa Central Wing was the best player on the court for Tulsa Central. He was tasked with tough match-ups all night with either the Boone twins or Kori Guest guarding him and still managed to have a big impact for the braves. He had the ability to get to the rim and finish. He also caused havoc on the defensive end blocking multiple shots throughout the night. Thomas finished with a game high 20 points on the night.
- Domination
Tulsa Memorial was dominant on the night. In a Top-5 Match-up, Memorial showed how good they truly are. They were dominant throughout the night and showed their depth. They went 12 deep on the night and there was hardly a drop in production. The Chargers are one of the best teams in the state and proved it tonight with their domination of the Braves.
