Five Key Questions: Flint Hill vs. Maret
OAKTON, VA — After trailing by double digits for a majority of the first half, Flint Hill pulled off an impressive comeback victory by a final score of 65-63 at home vs. Maret. Below we go through five key questions from this exciting MAC contest.
HOW GOOD IS ISAIAH MOORE?
Very good. Moore is probably playing his best ball of the season right now, averaging over 17 points per game over the course of his last seven. He scored 18 to lead his team last night, but also defended well and set up his teammates for easy points in transition. Moore has a strong skill set that features deep range on his jump shot, and he isn’t afraid to mix it up around the basket or lay his body on the line by taking a charge.
WHO WON THE BATTLE OF THE BIGS?
In a battle of two of the top two bigs in the local class of 2019, EJ Jarvis and Qudus Wahab, we saw a few fireworks, but not quite as many as we expected. We have to say that Jarvis did an exceptional job making things difficult for Wahab (4/15 FG) while matched up 1v1 in the post. He also did a really good job finding his shooters (5 Q1 assists). If we had to pick one over the other, we’d give the edge to Jarvis even though his team didn’t come out on top.
HOW DID FLINT HILL GET BACK IN THE GAME?
Defense. Junior Ethan Jones has returned from injury and was excellent on that side of the ball. He picked up full court, and was consistently active in the passing lanes, recording several deflections. Another junior, 2019 Christian Turner, came off the bench to score 8 of his 12 points in the second half. The 6’5 junior brought commendable energy and toughness for the Huskies tonight.
WHERE DID MOST OF MARET’S OFFENSE COME FROM?
Threes. University of Chicago commit Luke Downing, who was the game’s leading score with 22 points, hit four of six threes in the first half. 2019 Raphe Ayres, who chipped in with 16 points, hit four threes of his own. 2018 Elijah Bowens added two threes in the fourth as he almost led his team to a valiant comeback win.
WHY WAS THIS AN IMPORTANT GAME?
These are two of the best teams in the Mid Atlantic Athletic Conference, and Maret won this matchup earlier in the season. It was important for Flint Hill to even it up as hope to continue their climb up the league standings.
