The Knights celebrate the arrival of Cedric Bridges after sitting out 9 games (transfer rule) while missing 6’10” center Cameron Katal (DNP-unisclosed) the Wolves look to establish themselves in the 6A (D1) division under first year head coach Mark Schumaker. The Knights utilized their dribble drive offense to create opportunities while the Wolves relied on outside shooting vs. the Westview 2-3 zone. Knight up 20-17 end of the first. The 2nd quarter saw the wolves use their own 2-3 zone to slow down the more athletic Knights and take the lead 30-26. The 2nd half saw the intensity level rise as the Wolves clinged to a 43-42 lead at the end of 3.
The Wolves went back to their zone look in the 4th and found some success. However, the game came down to the last possession with the Knight’s Christian Diaz scoring the go ahead basket after the initial shot was missed, rebounded, and kicked back out as he cut to the basket for a layup. Desert Mountain’s last second full court heave rimmed out and the Knights held on for the 55-54 W!
Brady Giordano (Desert Mtn. Wolves)- was impressed at his quickness and drives to the basket. Sees the floor well and plays with good pace as a point guard.
Cedric Bridges (Westview Knights)- looked impressive in the post in his first game action of the season after sitting out due to transferring. Has a Charles Barkley-esque game where at 6’4” he uses strength and athleticism to bully his way to buckets inside.
Brandon Kron (Wolves)- solid build for a junior. Looks like he could be a D1 linebacker RIGHT NOW. Plays with great composure in the post and make strong solid moves with good footwork.
Christian Diaz (Westview)- underrated athleticism with a high activity level. Scores in a variety of ways including a knock down mid-range game.
D’Maurian Williams (Knights)- The junior has led this team since his freshman year. Uses his strength and size to score at the rim, typically with contact. Was unstoppable in the first quarter getting to the paint at will. Hit a few spot up 3’s as well once Desert Mountain employed their zone.
