Early Week Games to Watch
The snow has melted and teams have begun to play again on the east side of the state, although the schedule will be a bit tight over the next few days due to make up games, there are some very interesting matchups going on in the state.
Clinton vs James Kenan HS
Clinton HS has quietly put together an outstanding season so far with a record of 11-1 with their only loss coming to the 2017 State Championship Northside HS squad. The Dark Horses feature numerous unsigned seniors (Kris Williams, Zion Autry & Dewan Lesane) and a junior, (Xavier Howard) all of who are averaging double figures scoring the ball.
James Kenan HS has had a solid season of their own at a record of 8-2 being led by Junior Darryl Mccaster at 19 points per night and unsigned Senior Forward Jareem Lovette and 16 points and 6 rebounds per game.
Village vs Trinity Christian
These two programs met early on in the season with Trinity getting the bigtime win over Village Christian. Now the Knights will look to get revenge on their home court on Tuesday night and will need big games from Junior Guard Travion McCray and Wing Khuath Gatkuoth as well as solid bench production.
Trinity will look to its starting 5 of Junior to lead the way which features Forwards Joey Baker & Greg Gantt to go along with Guard Talton Jones, Audiese Toney & KJ Marshall. If you are in the Fayetteville area on Tuesday night, this is a game that you definitely will not want to miss, and you can expect VCA to be rocking.
Northside vs White Oak
Many thought that this matchup would be the championship game in the Onslow County Classic but due to White Oak losing in the early rounds this game never happened. Well this week we get to see the matchup and although Northside is the heavy favorite, White Oak has more than enough to make things interesting. Northside Senior Guard Kenny Dye has done a great job leading the squad and has the team has got production from multiple seniors to include Jason Mixon, Gabe Kirkendoll and Jason Robinson.
Cape Fear Academy vs Costal Christian
This game could end up having state playoff implications as both of these teams compete in the NCISAA 2A division. The Centurions feature Senior Forward Michael Parker who is a 6’5-6’6 player that has picked up quite a bit a bit of college interest as of late. Cape Fear Academy looks to get it done mainly by committee and will need big time performances from the team as a whole.
West Brunswick vs New Hanover
New Hanover has played well so far this season, with a high amount of seniors, they have a team that has played through all types of situations so not much surprises them. Senior Guards Freddie Taylor and Romello Williams as well as Forwards Josh Aldrich and Hayden Egar are all players that colleges should be on
West Brunswick is led in scoring by Senior Guard Khalil Bland at 12 points per game and they feature any intriguing prospect in 6’7 Sophomore Wing Jadyn Parker who is averaging 7 points a night.
