All “A” Classic Preview: Lexington Christian vs. University Heights
The 2018 Kentucky All “A” Classic kicks off Thursday, January 25th at Eastern Kentucky University’s McBrayer Arena. A prestigious event for Kentucky’s smaller schools, or “Class A” schools, teams represent Kentucky high school basketball’s 16 regions. Here we preview Lexington Christian vs. University Heights, one of the more anticipated match-ups of the All “A” Classic.
Lexington Christian Profile:
How they got here: Lexington Christian played Sayre, Model, and Frakfort on the way to their trip to Richmond, KY. The Eagles have won 9 out of their last 10.
Though they’ve been on a bit of a streak, LCA is currently ranked 7th overall in the ultra competitive 11th Region. But do not count them out, Lexington Christian is hoping for another 11th Region tournament run this year and is one of the favorites to win the All “A” Classic.
The Eagles are led by senior forward and North Florida commit Carter Hendricksen, who is averaging 20 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Cumberlands commit, senior forward Austin Hall is averaging 18.7 points and 8.4 rebounds and junior star Kyle Rode is averaging 13.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Good luck rebounding against those three.
University Heights Profile:
How they got here: University Heights took care of business, easily defeating Dawson Springs and Livingston Central.
The Blazers are showing much improvement after a disappointing year last year that saw an ultra-talented roster finish with a losing record. UHA has won their last 8 games and are ranked 3rd overall in the 2nd region standings.
University Heights is led by junior guard phenom and four star recruit Dekeyvan Tandy. Tandy is averaging 31.6 points and 5 rebounds per game. He currently holds offers from Florida, Oklahoma, Western Kentucky, and New Mexico State. Junior guard, Drew McGowan, is averaging 11.1 points and another junior guard Taquan Hollowell is averaging 10.7 points per game.
