Class of 2019 Sleeper PGs
What lead guards in the junior class are flying a bit under the radar and could be values at the college level? Here are a few that we like!
Jack McDonald (Geneva)
Current Ranking: #42
Travel Team: Mercury Elite
McDonald is a high IQ point guard that knows how to run a team. He was exceptional getting others involved for Mercury Elite over the summer showing great feel for the game and vision.
Zach Toussaint (Johnsburg)
Current Ranking: #43
Travel Team: Kessel Heat
The “Baby Faced Assassin” can flat out score the basketball! He is doing that on the high school level as a junior. Deep range on pull up three point shot and has some Jason Williams “White Chocolate” passing to his game.
Treavon Brown (West Aurora)
Current Ranking: #51
Travel Team: Illinois Stars
Brown is an athletic scoring combo guard that has a burst with the ball in his hands. Put himself on the map over the summer with the Illinois Stars. Has been up and down in this games we have seen him this season, but definitely one to track.
Treye Tucker (Harlem)
Current Ranking: #52
Travel Team: Team RWA
Tucker is a flashy point guard that is extremely exciting to watch play the lead guard position. He is an electric passer making plays in the open floor and can really score it as well with deep threes and handling it getting to the cup.
JR Cison (Lake Zurich)
Current Ranking: #53
Travel Team: Fundamental U
Cison is a high IQ and tough lead guard. He makes sound decisions with the basketball in his hands and can drill pull up jumpers. Could be a breakout player this spring and summer on the circuit.
Damari Nixon (Fenwick)
Current Ranking: #61
Travel Team: Chicago Select
Nixon takes a bit of a backseat to his elite sophomore teammate in the backcourt at Fenwick, but his lefty combo guard brings some things to the table you have to like. Plus spot up shooter that can play the two when needed. Slick ball handler getting in the lane and the angular guard can defend.
Malik Tidwell (Marian Catholic)
Current Ranking: #62
Travel Team: Meanstreets
Tidwell is a compact combo guard that has great strength. He has always been able to score with toughness around the hoop and is a plus three point shooter. With his lack of height he had to prove he could play the point at the next level and as a junior he has made strides in that area.
Jaheim Holden (Evanston)
Current Ranking: #66
Travel Team: All-In
Holden is a quick twitched lefty guard that is shifty with the ball in his hands. Gets in and out of traffic with ease. Holden likes to use floaters in the lane to score. Consistently gets dribble penetration. Streaky shooter, but can get hot from there. Pesky on ball defender at point of attack.
Nolan Niego (Lyons Township)
Current Ranking: #68
Travel Team: Chicago Lockdown
Niego is an under the radar point guard that can shoot the basketball. Tough and competitive kid that plays the game the right way and within a team concept.
