The Breakdown: Choctaw dispatches Shawnee
The Choctaw Yellowjackets got off to a hot start from three-point range in the first half and never let Shawnee have a chance in the second game of the day. Choctaw was led by the duo of Brock Schreiner and Austin Daugherty. Daugherty got extremely hot from deep hitting 6 first-half three-pointers. Shawnee without Meier
Carson Meier not playing had a huge impact in the outcome of the game. Shawnee lacked confidence in the first half without their go-to option. Shawnee looks to Meier for a great chunk of their scoring. Meier has been out the last few games with Mono. Shawnee hopes to get Meier back soon.
Daugherty gets hot
In what was one of his best games of the season Daugherty went off in the first half knocking down six three-pointers. He hit all seven of his three-pointers from catch and shoot situations. Choctaw was very smart and road the wave of Daugherty in the first half. He has some quality size at 6’4 with a smooth shooting stroke.
Choctaw silenced the crowd early
Choctaw never gave Shawnee fans an opportunity to get into the game outscoring Shawnee 28-5 in the second quarter. The run was led by the sharp shooting from Daugherty. Schreiner did a great job of getting his teammate’s open looks at the basket. Shawnee could never rebound from the huge run Choctaw had in the second quarter.
Shawnee made it respectable
Although, Shawnee was defeated pretty much in the second quarter they continued to fight in the second half. The Wolves were able to take away some positives from the game having closed the gap to single digits late in the fourth quarter. Daryl Busby and LJ McKissick were key in the second half for Shawnee.
What is next?
Choctaw: The Yellowjackets have a tough task matching up with Norman North in the semifinals of the Shawnee Invitational. It will give Choctaw the opportunity to prove they are a true contender for the Class 6A state tournament.
Shawnee: The Wolves will face Stillwater on Friday morning in the consolation bracket. Shawnee could use a big bounce-back victory.
