The 2018 Kentucky All “A” Classic kicks off Thursday, January 25th at Eastern Kentucky University’s McBrayer Arena. A prestigious event for Kentucky’s smaller schools, or “Class A” schools, teams represent Kentucky high school basketball’s 16 regions. Here we preview Knott County Central (14th Region) vs. Owensboro Catholic (3rd Region).
Knott County Central Profile:
How they got here: Four games against 14th Region foes Jackson City, June Buchanan, Breathitt County, and Cordia – a gauntlet of sorts, is how. And it was relatively easy. Knott defeated each team with ease.
The Patriots are 13-4 and sit atop the 14th Region’s overall rankings currently. They will play Letcher County tonight in a regular season match-up before heading to Richmond for the All “A” Classic.
Knott County Central is led by senior guard Isaac Caudill, who is averaging 19.6 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Junior Branson Couch is averaging 10.6 points per game and junior Khalil Slone is averaging 9.4 points per game.
Owensboro Catholic Profile:
How they got here: The Aces knocked off Trinity (Whitesville), Hancock County, and Edmonson County all fairly easy. Unlike some other participants, this will be Catholic’s first game since the 3rd Region All “A”. Some others have played a regular season game in-between.
The Aces are 13-6 and are currently ranked 3rd in the overall regional rankings. Their match-up against Knott County Central could play out to be one of their toughest yet.
Catholic is led in scoring by senior forward John Marshall, averaging just over 12 points per game and 6.4 rebounds. Senior guard Luke Hayden is averaging right at 10 points and 5 rebounds and senior Gabriel McFarland is averaging just over 9 points per game.
