5 Takeaways : Johnsonville vs Andrews
Prep Hoops went inland to watch a region matchup between Johnsonville vs Andrews on Friday night. The 2-A teams provided a nail biter down to final few seconds. The Yellow Jackets won with a Rayquan Kinloch put back on the glass and a Amahn Anderson free throw to seal the 55-53 victory over the Flashes.
MVP : Carrele Cooper (2020) Andrews HS (pictured on front)
Cooper led the Yellow Jackets down the stretch by scoring 14 points in the game. Cooper has been up and down all season for the Yellow Jackets. Cooper finally connected on a few three pointers and some baskets at the cup.
Best Freshman : Quez Lewis (2021) Johnsonville HS
Lewis hit a few big shots in the game to keep the Flashes in the fold. Lewis 5’5 scored 13 points in the game for the Flashes. Lewis needs to make better decisions at times but played with a fearless attitude on the floor.
Long Range Shooter : Shamar Matthews (2018) Andrews HS
Matthews attempted 12 three pointers tonight for the Yellow Jackets. Matthews finished the night with just 12 points. Matthews is coming off a 28 point game vs Marion earlier in the week. Matthews is a green light shooter and isn’t afraid to pull-up from 25 feet and let it fly.
Post Player : Tyrek Langley (2019) Johnsonville HS
Prep Hoops hadn’t seen Langley going into today believe it or not. Langley has a great set of shoulders and look to him. Langley 6’4 (210) undersized post is still a RAW basketball talent. Langley plays DE on the Flashes Football team. Langley had the ability to face-up from 6-8 feet on the floor.
Takeaway :
The Yellow Jackets will add the services of guard Kenley Vereen (2018) in the next few weeks when 2nd semester starts up. This will give the Yellow Jackets some more fire power in the back court.
The Yellow Jackets last won a State Basketball Championship in 1985 when they finished the season at 31-0.
The Flashes fall to 6-6 on the season under veteran Head Coach Harris Avant. The Flashes have a bright future with some young talent in the mix.
Malik Washington (2018) a left-handed point guard was around the ball all night long tonight. Washington seemed to have know problems getting into the paint for the Flashes.
