Game of the Night
Yes, rivalry game time! It’s time for a big-time rivalry. The good ole Highway 200 Showdown: Beulah vs. Hazen.
Hazen is young and they don’t have a pretty record at 1-6 but they’ve played quite a few strong teams this year. Hazen’s opponents have a combined record of 46-16. Take out Watford City, which is the only team Hazen has beaten, and their combined opponents record moves to 44-8.
For Hazen fans, this is great news. Their team has truly been tested and they know what they have. Jayce Zuern has shown an ability to get to the rim and make outside shots. Isaac Doll has continued to fill the role of star player strongly by scoring at will and playing tough defense. Hazen’s third-best scoring option is Peyton Leintz. The senior has shown an ability to take and make jumpers.
Right now Hazen’s question marks are their size and Garrett Ward. Ward, a sophomore guard, has shown spurts of what he can do, but he hasn’t consistently put it together.
Hazen’s starting rotation doesn’t have a big guy who can bang and rebound.
Beulah is senior laden. They know what they are getting into with a big rivalry game. They have three solid offensive all-region caliber players in Derek Ferebee, Logan Miller, and Jacob Weigel. If those three reach double-digits scoring Beulah will win. Shaye Yeager adds a nice scoring punch at the forward position off the bench. Eighth-grader Trey Brandt also brings some punch off the bench.
Beulah hasn’t stayed near the top of the Class B State Media Poll. But they’ve proven they are still a power player in Region 7. They topped Hettinger-Scranton on Tuesday night. So, they’ve got their mojo working.
Now, they have a chance to send a big message to the rest of the region.
*Beulah has struggled with foul trouble at certain points this year. Mason Dolbec, a senior forward, and Ferebee have both had some foul troubles. They need to play aggressive but clean.
*Hazen has to rebound. They struggle securing rebounds out of their zone defense sometimes.
*Beulah has been turnover prone this year and sometimes they get sloppy. They’ll want to keep the game clean and avoid unforced errors tonight.
*Hazen’s big guys are turning into players. Cullen Traiser, a 6-5 junior, and Austin Richter, a 6-5 freshman, have shown some improvement.
*Hazen only rosters two seniors.
Bowman County @ Grant County
Bowman County is 6-3 on the season. They have a team that’s athletic and Dylan Scott is one of the best scorers in the region. Bowman County shouldn’t have any trouble with Grant County (0-9).
Key Player – Dylan Scott is a senior for Bowman with a nice shooting touch. He’s also one of the better jumpers in the region.
Richardton-Taylor @ Glen Ullin-Hebron
Richardton-Taylor only put up 30 points in a loss to Beach earlier this week. Expect Glen Ullin-Hebron to be hungry for a win after a road loss to Killdeer. Brayden Zuroff is coming off of a 21-point showing against Killdeer. The game may start a little bit ugly because it’s a back-to-back but Glen Ullin-Hebron should come out with a win.
Key Player to Watch – Brayden Zuroff is an athletic junior for Glen Ullin/Hebron.
Side Note – Noah Sickler dropped 30 points on Heart River in a critical Region 7 home win for Dickinson Trinity.
