2019’s Top Perimeter Defenders
Being able to defend takes footwork, technique, and more importantly heart. Players have to take matchups personal and be able to impose their will on the offensive player. All college coaches love good defenders and will make a spot for them any day. Good perimeter defenders are the most difficult to find because a lot of what they do doesn’t pop up in the stat sheet all the time. Contesting shots, creating deflections, good denial defense, and more, are all good signs of a good perimeter defender but those intangibles don’t always show in the stat sheet. Here are some of 2019’s top perimeter defenders in Nor-Cal.
Jaden McClanahan – Salesian 5’9′ PG
Jaden played exceptional defense on Sophomore Phenom Jalen Green at the “Crush in the Valley” showcase, holding him to a rough 17 points and harassed him all game. His great feet and strong upper body strength makes it very difficult for guards to get comfortable.
Jovon McClanahan – Salesian 5’9’PG
Jovon who is the twin brother of Jaden, carries similar traits on the defensive end. He also has good feet and has good upper body strength, but he also plays players off-the-ball well.
Devin Small – Weston Ranch 5’10’ PG
Devin is very quick and has a good nose for the ball. He dives for loose balls, and has the ability to pick up opposing guards full-court.
Miles Amos – Stuart Hall 6’0′ PG
Miles has good speed and has a good wingspan for his height. He has the ability to deflect passes from opposing guards, as well as move laterally at a good speed.
Akil Edwards – St. Patrick-St Vincent’s 6’0′ PG
