10 Best : Sumter vs Wilson MLK Bash
The second game of the day featured the Sumter HS Gamecocks vs Wilson HS Tigers. Both teams stayed even midway through the first half at 12-12 with a Isiah Moore (2018) dunk at the rim.
Alex Caldwell (2018) led the Wilson HS Tigers all game long with big shot after big shot to help the Tigers pull away in the 2nd half to win 67-58 over the Gamecocks.
MVP : Alex Caldwell (2018) Wilson HS (pictured on front)
Caldwell a Southeast Missouri State signee led the Tigers with 24 points today for the Tigers. Caldwell a point guard really has a desire to score the ball and can create his own shot anywhere on the floor.
Play of the Game : Cameron Singleton (2018) Sumter HS
Singleton hit a big 3 pointer at 6:01 left in the game to give the Gamecocks a lead at 56-55. Sadly to say at 3:09 left in the game Singleton went down with a right knee injury under the basket. Singleton had to be carried off by staff and taken to the hospital. Singleton was having a great game up until then with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.
Best Offensive Performance : Isaih Moore (2018) Sumter HS
Moore ranked #7 in the 2018 Palmetto State Class finished the night with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Moore 6’9 skilled perimeter shooter will play at the College of Charleston next fall for Head Coach Earl Grant.
Best Underclassmen : Calvin “CJ” Felder (2019) Sumter HS
Felder is a very athletic and talented player around the rim. Felder scored 14 points on 7-10 shooting from the floor. Felder has a great build and plays strictly around the cup. Felder has received plenty of college interest after playing last summer with Game Elite
Best Guy Under the Radar : Darius Rhodes (2018) Wilson HS
Rhodes transferred into Wilson HS from nearby Hartsville HS last season. Rhodes a combo guard finished the night with 18 points and at times bullied the Gamecocks guards to the rack.
Best Project : Ryan Carfley (2018) Wilson HS
Carfley has committed to play at Coker College (SC) (NCAA D2) next season. Carfley 6’9 post player seems to be in the best shape I can recall over the past 4 years I’ve seen him play. Carfley hit a few 6-8 footers along the baseline today.
College Talent Still Available : Jamontay Williams (2018) Wilson
Williams has filled out some more since seeing him play back in the Prep Hoops 25 Expo back in September 2017 in Myrtle Beach. Williams has good length and runs the floor very well. Several NCAA D2 schools have expressed interest in Williams.
Junior Guards : Tyree Smalls and Allen Williamson
Smalls 5’9 left-handed guard for the Sumter Gamecocks finished the game with 11 points after catching fire early in the 2nd half with 3 three pointers.
Williamson a left-handed guard finished with 6 points for the Tigers. Williamson has a grown man body type on the floor and a bit of a old-school style game.
3 Point Shooting :
The Teams combined 12-17 today from behind the arc. The Gamecocks connected on 7-10 from downtown with Tyree Smalls (3-3), Cameron Singleton (2-3) and Isaih Moore (2-3).
Takeaway :
These 2 teams will look to make pushes down the stretch with the Tigers in Class 4-A and the Gamecocks 5-A.
