10 Best: Providence Day vs Christ School
The Chargers of Providence Day finally made the trip to Western North Carolina to take on Christ School on Saturday. The game had been cancelled two years running by inclement weather in the mountains.
MVP: Devon Dotson-The Kansas recruit showed why he is considered one of the top point guards in the country with his ability to get to the rim and consistently make baskets in traffic. He scored 36 points on an array of and 1 baskets and three-point shots.
Offensive MVP: Jalen Lecque-The top 3 ranked 2019 in the class by PrepHoopsNC, Lecque had assistant coach Mike Mennenga from Oregon at the game to see him. He scored 27 points and left the crowd in a frenzy with a couple of monster dunks in transition.
Defensive MVP: Brandon Stone and Justice Ajogbor-The twin towers from Christ School altered shots for Dotson and Wertz all game and used their length to frustrate the Providence Day big men.
Best Passer: Jalen Lecque-The 2019 point guard showed his ability to play more of the point guard position and get his teammates involved. He does a great job of attracting defenses and luring them in to find the wide open teammate for an easy basket or a three-pointer.
Best Shot Blocker: Jalen Lecque-With his athletic ability through the roof, Lecque altered shots and had some key blocks when Providence Day was about to make a run. He has a unique ability to run down shots almost Lebronesque and get the block.
Best Shooter: Devon Dotson and Trey Wertz-The Kansas recruit and Santa Clara recruit, both shows the ability to shoot the basketball at a high level which will translate at the next level. Wertz had a hard time with some early foul trouble but is a big guard that can shoot and will do that at the next level under Herb Sendek at Santa Clara.
Best Underclassman: Justice Ajogbor-The class of 2020 prospect had some nice plays around the basket and showed a soft touch while scoring on the block. He had some thunderous dunks that nearly brought the rim down. He needs to get a little more aggressive but has two more years at the high school level to work on that.
Key to Game: The play of Isaac Suffren was a non-factor for the first time in a long time, after a tremendous Chick-Fil-A Classic, Suffren hurt his wrist on a play early in the first half and was never back to his normal self.
Moving Forward: This was the best that I have seen Christ School play this season and they look like they are starting to figure it all out. The team is starting to figure out how to play with each other and Jeff Depaulteau was able to go deep into his bench to get quality minutes.
Best Pro Prospect: Devon Dotson and Jalen Lecque-Both have different styles to their game, Dotson’s game transitions well to the pro game with his ability to get to the basket and get scores, Lecque has the most athletic ability of anyone in his class and that alone will translate at the next level.
