10 Best: Flint Hill vs. The Potomac School
OAKTON, VA — Flint Hill picked up a massive win over longtime rival The Potomac School by a final score of 62-58. Here are the 10 best from this exciting and hard fought contest.
MVP | QUDUS WAHAB | FLINT HILL ’19
Despite battling foul trouble in the second half, Qudus Wahab managed to finish the game and help his team control the paint. The 6’11 junior, who recorded 20 points (9/11 FG, 4/6 FT) and 10 boards, worked hard to consistently establish early position on the low block, converting efficiently around the rim by utilizing his expanding arsenal of post moves. Syracuse Assistant Coach Adrian “Red” Autry was in to see Wahab tonight, and while the Orange have yet to offer, we imagine he was pleased with what he saw.
BEST OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | ISAIAH MOORE | FH ’18
When will teams learn not to leave Isaiah Moore open? The unsigned senior showcased his smooth long range jumper down the stretch, hitting a crucial three to ice the game. Moore scored 16 points, hitting all eight of his free throw attempts.
BEST DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | DEVON FLOWERS | TPS ’18
Devon Flowers was locked in defensively in this contest. The long-limbed 6’8+ senior blocked a game-high 5 shots, displaying fluid movement and excellent timing when challenging shots.
BEST UNDER-THE-RADAR PERFORMANCE | PRESTON BACON | TPS ’19
2019 Preston Bacon had a solid showing despite his team’s loss. The sturdily built guard demonstrated good ball handling ability and a very quick first step. Bacon is a strong finisher at the rim, and always seeks contact on his drives.
BEST GUY OFF THE BENCH | SEAN HERLIHY | FH ’18
Sean Herlihy played a vital role in this contest off bench, especially in the second half when Wahab went out with foul trouble. The energetic 6’6 senior pulled down 6 important rebounds, demonstrating good box out fundamentals on the defensive glass, and commendable effort when crashing the offensive boards.
BEST SHOOTER | ISAIAH MOORE | FH ’18
We’ll just repeat this one more time so it marinates a bit. Don’t leave Isaiah Moore open.
BEST UNDERCLASSMEN | JUSTICE ELLISON | FH ’20
Justice Ellison appears to coming into his own, as he’s performed very well in the last two games we’ve been at now. It all starts with his defense. Ellison is a tremendous athlete who anticipates the passing lanes well, and picks up 94 feet.
BEST INTANGIBLES | ETHAN JONES | FH ’19
We absolutely love the energy that Ethan Jones brings to this team. It was a shame to see him go down with what we believe was a re-aggravation of a wrist injury from a few weeks back. We hope that he gets well soon, because the Huskies need his toughness.
BEST ATHLETE | JUSTIN TAYLOR | FH ’18
Justin Taylor is headed to Cornell to play baseball, but he continues to perform well on the hardwood for Head Coach Rico Reed. He’s a bouncy wing at 6’2 who defends and plays above the rim.
BEST STORY TO WATCH MOVING FORWARD
Flint Hill was winless in the MAC before picking up this win, and they’ll look to pick up back to back league wins when they host Georgetown Day on Tuesday. Potomac School will travel to Maret, where they face the Frogs for the first time.
