Unsigned Senior: Jairus Hamilton
The highest ranked unsigned player in the PrepHoopsNC 2018 rankings, Jairus Hamilton has been having a stat stuffing start to the season. Currently ranked as the 6th best prospect in the state, Hamilton continued his strong start to the season with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists for Cannon School (Concord, North Carolina) against WestRidge Academy (Kernersville, North Carolina) this weekend in the Nike Southeast Hoops Festival held at Vance High School in Charlotte.
Hamilton scored 40 points and had 18 rebounds against Word of God (Raleigh, North Carolina) on December 18th and followed that performance up with 26 points, 15 rebounds, four assists in a 69-41 win over Hickory Grove (North Carolina). He scored 27 points against Lee High School (Huntsville, Alabama) in early November.
He’s taken official visits to Mississippi State, Maryland and Boston College this fall, and is in no rush to make a college decision. He has nothing else scheduled as of right now from a visit perspective but Villanova and Head Coach Jay Wright have started to come on strong for the 6-foot-8 powerful forward. He has said publicly that he may visit Villanova officially in the coming months.
He holds offers from in-state schools Duke, North Carolina, NC State and Wake Forest but the schools outside of the state are the ones that are showing the most loyalty to the Concord, North Carolina forward. At this point in his recruitment it looks like a winter or early spring commitment may be a more realistic timetable as Hamilton takes a long look at the schools that have stayed on him throughout the recruiting process.
He was recently nominated for the McDonald’s All-American game and will need to keep putting up the numbers he already has this season to solidify a spot on the roster for the most prestigious award at the high school level.
