Top Teams Go Down & HAECO Invitational Schedule
Tuesday night saw some big upsets in North Carolina high school hoops as Cannon School knocked off Greensboro Day in private school and Myers Park High School knocked off Butler High School in public school basketball.
Cannon School led by unsigned seniors Jairus Hamilton (21 points, 12 rebounds) and Qon Murphy (19 points) won on the road against previously undefeated Greensboro Day (12-1). This one went to overtime but Cannon School prevailed with a 60-57 win. This was a close one with the score at halftime 28-25 in Cannons’s favor. This was Greensboro Day’s first loss of the season and The Bengals were led by 16 points from Clemson signee John Newman and 18 from guard Trip Greene. Cannon School improves to 6-4 on the season while Greensboro Day drops to 12-1. Cannon School will face Hickory Christian Academy this week and Greensboro Day travels to Hawaii for The Iolani Classic.
Myers Park High School got 37 points from junior guard Caleb McReed to upset one of the top teams in the NCHSAA 4-A division, Butler High School. Myers Park built a 6-point lead heading into halftime and never relinquished the lead for the next two quarters securing the win. This was the first loss for Butler High School who drop to 5-1 on the season. The Bulldogs were led by Queens University recruit DJ Little with 18 points, New Orleans recruit Gerrelle Gates with 14 points and 2019 big guard Raquan Brown with 18 points. Duwe Farris scored 14 and John Ingram had 12 for Myers Park High School in the upset.
