Top Performers: Southwest Florida Christian vs. Wildwood
In the second game of the 2017 City of Palms Classic on Monday, Wildwood came back to beat Southwest Florida Christian 79-68.
The Wildcats were led by senior Darion Wilson’s 27 points. Wilwood trailed 32-30 at the break before outscoring the Kings 28-16 in the final quarter of play.
Southwest Florida Christian earned a fine performance from FGCU commit Caleb Catto, who posted a game-best 30 points which included 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc.
Here are the top performers from this matchup.
Darion Wilson (Wildwood)
Wilson had seven points in the first half as Wildwood struggled with turnovers and team chemistry. However, he turned his focus on and scored 20 more points in the second half to guide the Wildcats. A 6’1″ senior guard, Wilson can get hot quick and he was the one to step up in this game for Wildwood.
Caleb Catto (Southwest Florida Christian)
Catto was lethal from beyond the arc and he made 9-of-11 at the free throw stride, not slowing down from many attacks to the basket. The 6’5″ guard is a student of the game and a perfect fit for Atlantic Sun basketball. He’ll fit in nicely at FGCU.
Cade Daugherty (Southwest Florida Christian)
It is hard not to like when a freshman steps up. With sophomore forward Cayden Baker out with a leg injury, the Kings needed a spark. Daugherty, a 5’7″ 2021 guard paced the Southwest Florida Christian offense well with 15 points including 3-of-4 from long range.
Bryan McMullen (Wildwood)
McMullen was solid, to say the least for Wildwood with 14 points and nine rebounds. He also contributed four assists and three steals. McMullen is a 6’2″ senior that the Wildcats rely upon to do a lot of dirty work. He did just that today.
Shemar Rose (Wildwood)
Rose is a gifted outside shooter and he proved that with 3-of-5 from 3-point land. The 5’10” senior was a key factor to Wildwood’s success a year ago. He added 13 points in this game along with five rebounds. Look for Rose to continue to perform well.
