Top Five Games of the Week
In what in a short week for game because of the winter break, Oklahoma still has some enticing matchups across the state. The last couple of weeks have been dominated by big school matchups, but it is more even this week throughout the classes, with some cross-class matchups that will be fun. All of these games will be taking place on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
- 3A#8 Millwood @ 3A#10 Okmulgee
The top game of the week goes to the smaller classes. Two teams that will be playing basketball late into March face off in a big matchup the week before Christmas. Millwood will take the long road trip to play a really good Okmulgee team that got second in the Sperry tournament this past week and beat some good teams in the process. The Top-10 Matchup in Class 3A should be entertaining.
- 6A#8 Sand Springs @ 6A#14 Owasso
Sand Springs is the surprise team this year in Class 6A. They were not highly rated coming into the season, but after some impressive displays, they look like legitimate contenders in Class 6A. They have played tough defense the entire season and have the star power with Colt Savage 2018 Guard and Davon Richardson 2020 Guard. Owasso looks dangerous lead by Ohio State commit (football), Josh Proctor 2018 Guard. Owasso will be a team to keep an eye on in the early season as they could stun some teams.
- 6A#16 Sapulpa @ 6A#3 Union
Sapulpa and Union will be a game of the Guards. In a matchup of some of the best guards in Class 6A, Kendall McVay and Michiah McQuarters 2018 Guards from Union will look to take down Julian Smith 2019 Guard and Hunter Hogatt 2020 Guard from Sapulpa. Smith has had some monster games this year for the Chieftains even being in contention for PrepHoops player of the week award after impressive performances last week. McVay and McQuarters are streaky shooters. They will look to get hot for the Redskins in this one with help from Mo Garcia 2o18 Guard. If this happens the third-ranked Redskins will be hard to stop.
- 2A#11 Howe @ B#2 Red Oak
Red Oak is the team to beat in Class B. They have beaten some good teams this season and both of their losses come from ranked teams in higher classes. Grayson Nix, a Henderson State commit, leads Red Oak. Nix has size for a guard that would cause problems in any class, but especially in the smaller classes that he plays in. Red Oak and Nix will be hard to stop this year. Howe looks to keep the narrative going with higher class ranked teams beating Red Oak. Howe is traditionally good and will look to beat a really good Red Oak team in their last game before Christmas break.
- 5A#4 Booker T. Washington @ 4A#17 Tulsa Webster
Booker T. Washington has the most talented starting five in the state. They have two of the best shooters in the state with Trey Phipps and Bryce Thompson, both 2020 Guards, and they have Jacyson Bereal, Boise State commit. Tulsa Webster also has a talented team led by David Ward 2018 Wing. Webster has some youngsters that could impact the game with Anthony Pritchard 2021 Guard. If Pritchard and Ward can both have huge games against the Hornets, Webster could look to pull off the upset against one of the best teams in Class 5A.
