TOC: Five Takeaways from Kingston vs Carl Albert
Carl Albert knocked off Kingston 65-57 in the second game of the Tournament of Champions! We learned a lot from the game. Get the details of what we learned below!
Slow Start for Carl Albert
The Titans started off slow against Kingston possibly from underestimating a good Class 3A squad. The Kingston Guards started off shooting the ball lights out from three-point range. Over time Carl Albert clawed their way to victory by pressuring the Kingston Guards leading the Titans to easy baskets off turnovers.
Best Duo in Oklahoma
Mason Harrell and Trey Hopkins put on a show in the Mabee Center scoring 59 points combined. Harrell runs the Point Guard so well for the Titans with his ability to score the ball and make others around him better. On this night, Harrell was needed to score and he delivered. Hopkins and Harrell accounted for all of the Titans points at the half. Harrell shot 50% from the floor scoring 34 points on 24 shots. Hopkins energized the Titans comeback with several electric dunks. Hopkins finished with 23 points on 8-19 shooting. On a night when they did not have their best the duo of Harrell and Hopkins still shined bright.
Germany has good showing
Jacob Germany 2019 Post finished the game with 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead the way for Kingston. He hit his first shot of the game from three-point range. From that point forward Germany was solid throughout the rest of the day. Carl Albert did not have a player within 5 inches of Germany in the paint. Germany showed his efficiency shooting 10-14 from the floor. He did a good job of finishing plays off in the paint. Germany showed why he is projected to the High Major level. He has to get tougher inside and demand the basketball more. With that said it was a good start to his campaign at the Tournament of Champions. Germany will play again on Thursday at 1:30pm!
Weeks a Name to know
RJ Weeks 2019 Kingston Guard gives Kingston a player that can score the ball well from three-point range. He stretches the defense with his jumper creating a little opening on the inside for Germany. Weeks is a player every small college in the state should have on their board to watch this next spring and summer. He has some good competitive nature to him with a good jumper and sneaky athleticism. Weeks shot 3-6 from three-point range totaling 14 points for the game. One area of his game he will need to improve is his handle.
Can Carl Albert win despite their depth?
The lack of depth on Carl Albert is very alarming. Outside of Harrell and Hopkins the other players accounted for only 8 points on the night. If the result is the same against Booker T. Washington it could be a long game for the Titans tomorrow night.
