TOC: The DJ Show
Midwest City steamrolled to victory over Wright City 75-55 in the opening game of the Tournament of Champions. It was the DJ show! Everyone knows Derrick Walter Jr. but it wasn’t just him leading the charge for Midwest City. 2020 Forward DJ Freeman had a huge game emerging as a presence in the post.
Freeman scored 10 points on 5-6 shooting from the floor including a big alley-oop dunk. If Midwest City can get consistent play from the 6’5 sophomore they are a completely different team. He rebounded the ball well for the Bombers pulling down 5 rebounds in 17 minutes.
The other DJ, Derrick Walter Jr. is starting to seem comfortable with his role as the senior leader and go to option for the Bombers. Walter Jr. scored a game-high 23 points with his jumper looking sharp. He shot over 50% from behind the arc. Midwest City could use both DJ’s to continue their great play in the Tournament of Champions as they have a tough road to the Championship. Midwest City plays the winner of Tulsa Memorial vs Sperry.
Wright City was led by Robert Briley with 21 points on 9-14 shooting. Briley is a player NCAA Division II programs must know. He got most of his points attacking the basket off the dribble. Briley stands around 6’3 with a good build.
