Ten Best: Harrison vs. Benton Central
The second game of the night saw another slow offensive start as Harrison led Benton Central 29-15 at the half. Harrison took advantage of their three-point shooting early on to take that halftime lead making 4-of-7. Harrison pulled away in the second half and cruised to a 56-30 win. Stats: Harrison vs. Benton Central
MVP – Benito Munoz | 2018 | 5’10 SG
Munoz was really good in this game getting to the basket and on defense. He posted up and scored a lot of his game high 13 points from there. Rebounded well and played good defense. An all-around good showing even though he struggled a bit shooting.
Best offensive player – Morgan Knotts | 2019 | 6’ G
Knotts shot 4-of-12 but he still was the most impressive on Benton Central as far as offense goes. He scored nine points and all of his buckets came in the paint. He drove the ball really well but struggled shooting.
Best defensive player – Payton Hall | 2019 | 5’11 G
Hall locked down the guy he was guarding all game long, even though sometimes he was matched up on Munoz. Hall had a huge block in the game and otherwise just played very solid on defense.
Best bench player – Miguel Munoz | 2020 | 5’10 G
Munoz came off the bench and contributed four points. Added a couple rebounds and didn’t have any turnovers. Doesn’t project to be anything in college but is a good 6th man for this team.
Best under-the-radar guy – Allen Hardebeck | 2020 | 6’1 G
Hardebeck didn’t contribute anything to the stat sheet but played a solid game. Didn’t have any turnovers and was competent off the bench in his action. Not much to his game oher than solid defense and making good decisions with the ball.
Best underclassman – Ethan Hallenbeck | 2020 | 5’8 G
Hallenbeck really impressed me with how he was able to score against the bigger defenders in the pint. Hallenbeck scored five points in the game and grabbed a couple rebounds as well. A good showing for the undersized guard.
Best guy I didn’t know before – Calvin Walters | 2018 | 6’5 PF
Walters was decent in this one. I like his height but he didn’t really rebound that much. I would like to see him crash the boards harder as their tallest player. Could be a project for a small school.
Best rebounder – Zach Fry | 2018 | 6’1 G
For a 6’1 guard, Fry rebounded the ball really well. He grabbed six rebounds and led both teams in that category. For a small guard, he crashes well and really hits the boards hard with his athleticism.
Best coaching decision – Taking Munoz out of the game
Benito Munoz got into foul trouble early and the coach was forced to take him out in a close game. This paid off as Munoz sat for a little while then came in and scored a few points giving them a big lead and set the pace for the rest of the game.
Best storyline – Harrison looks good, but can they compete?
Harrison dominated Benton Central for the most part but can they hang with the big teams they will play? They need to shoot it better and Munoz needs to score more. They have a little height so that will help them down the road.
