Team Rose Shootout: Sunday Standouts
The Team Rose Shootout wrapped up on Sunday where we saw five more games. The contest between Danville and Orr might be the best contest we have seen all year with dominant performances by a pair of Team Rose travel team running mates. Check out our standouts from Sunday!
PG Kendle Moore (Danville – 2018)
Without question Kendle Moore is going to be a star in the Missouri Valley for Drake! In front of one his future coaches he absolutely carved Orr apart with his elite speed and ability to make tough layups. Moore time after time started his offense with his defense getting steals and taking them the other way for transition finishes. In the half court set he could not be stopped from getting to the rim with his elite speed off the bounce. Now days players just throw up crazy shots hoping to get fouled. Moore has an ability to finish around shot blockers maneuvering his body whatever way he has to for the bucket. Also mixed in some mid-range jumpers and a corner three. Moore had the play of the day when he won the game on a drive to give Danville the win over Orr. You can see this play below! He finished with 29 points.
SG Sean Houpt (Danville – 2019)
Houpt is one of my favorite players in the junior class. His stock steadily rises every time we are able to evaluate him. The Danville junior is a high IQ player that is tough and versatile. Houpt was tenacious on the glass flying in for tough rebounds. He drilled multiple clutch jumpers from beyond the arc with his sweet lefty jump shot. Handles it well in transition. Plus defender that can check multiple positions. Houpt had 17 points. Low-major prospect that should also be on the radar of high D2 programs.
PG Chase Adams (Orr – 2018)
This was unequivocally the best we have ever seen Chase Adams. The Orr 5’8” point guard came out on fire against Danville. The quick and shifty lead guard was confident and looking to score. Adams drilled pull up mid-range jumpers all over the floor. He sets up his shot and has balance every time he releases it. Mixed in some acrobatic layups in the paint. As the game went on he hit a couple threes. Best there off the catch. Quality passer that made several great dishes inside and finding Smith for open looks from three. Defensively he is a pesky defender that pressures the ball. His lack of height will hurt him somewhat on that end at the college level, but he plays really hard on that end. Finished with 37 points. Looked the part of a D2 point guard in this game!
SF Dannie Smith (Orr – 2018)
Smith is a tough and physical 6’5” small forward. Powerful inside finishing around the hoop. Where he really shined was drilling threes as he hit a trio of them back to back to back in the second half. When he gets space and his feet are set he makes them most of the time. Lots of arc on his shot. Smith had 25 points. Projects as a high level D2 prospect that could find a home at the low-major level.
PF Tyree Martin (Curie – 2018)
Martin is a 6’8” power forward who is among the top available post prospects in the state. The senior big man is best on the defensive end. Protected the rim using his length and timing to block shots without fouling. Rebounds well in traffic. Finished a sweet high/low on a pass from his brother. Also finished another dump off. He had 8 points. Low-major and D2 programs should take a look at him and his brother.
SG Jordan Matthews (St. Rita – 2018)
Another quality performance out of this senior shooting guard. The St. Rita guard was good at the Chicago Elite Classic and was the Mustangs best player again. Takes quality angles to the hoop and likes to score with acrobatic layups. Shifty getting to the hoop. Strong body allows him to take a bump. Matthews had 17 points. High level small college prospect with D2 potential.
SF Jabari Chiphe (Walter Payton – 2020)
The day began with our evaluation of this intriguing sophomore wing. Chiphe is a 6’3” rangy two guard that will need to add strength long term, but has a lot of game. He is super smooth with the basketball handling getting to the hoop on slippery drives. Finished at the rim for at least three and-1 opportunities. Was an active rebounder as well. Didn’t show off his jump shot much in this game. Over the head release on his shot. Like the upside in this wing and is someone that is worth monitoring for low-major D1 programs early in the process. Finished with 18 points.
SG Joshua Evans (Crete Monee – 2018)
Evans emerged on our radar with a strong performance at the Team Rose Shootout. The 6’4” senior shooting guard shot the ball well especially pulling up from 15-18 feet. Balanced and clean shooting stroke. Gets to his spots and lets it fly. Also active on the defensive end getting steals and taking it the other way. Evans had 23 points. Worth consideration at the D3/NAIA/JUCO levels.
SG Malik Hardmon (Crete Monee – 2018)
Hardmon was another Crete player that broke out Sunday. He is a strong 6’5” shooting guard that is powerful around the hoop. Finished very well at the rim attacking the hoop and owning the glass from his guard position. Good athlete that can get out in transition. Hardmon went for 22 points. Small college kid.
SG Javion May (Hope – 2018)
May impressed us over the summer when we saw him with the Chicago Demons and stood out again in their game against Providence St. Mel. The shooting guard has such a quick burst with the rock whether in transition or the half court. Gets to the rim at a high rate which is where he scores most of his points. Slow release on jumper. Very competitive kid. He had 19 points. D3 or NAIA prospect.
SG Deion Jackson (Providence St. Mel – 2019)
Jackson started off on fire for Providence St. Mel! The 6’2” shooting guard has an angular build. Opened up by drilling a pair of threes and converting an and-1. The plus athlete then went quiet for the majority of the game until a put back late in the contest. He had 11 points. D2 ability, but needs to put more complete performances together.
