Recruiting Update: Devan Cambridge (2019)
On arguably the biggest stage they’ve seen all season, Believe Prep (TN) rode the hot hand and fearless slashing of 6-foot-6 Class of 2019 guard/forward Devan Cambridge.
While BPA lost in a lopsided 88-66 throttling at the hands of Orangeville Prep of Canada, Cambridge put together an eye-opening 39-point performance. The Nashville, TN. native connected on 14-of-24 from the floor and cemented his status as a high major caliber recruit. Hyper athletic and thriving in the above the rim game, Cambridge displayed his all three levels scoring aptitude with six 3-pointers.
In a performance of this magnitude, against Michigan commit Ignas Brazdeikas (30 points, 13-for-23), Cambridge cemented his status as an under the radar high-major prospect. While he currently holds offers from Auburn and Georgia Tech, amongst others, this performance should widen the list significantly.
Coulter Dotson: Tennessee native will spend final year of illustrious high school career at Believe. At 6-foot-6, 175 and containing a wealth of experience as a high-scoring feature piece, Dotson will lead as a 3-point ace.
High-level shooting and catch-and-stick prosperity was on display during the Memphis Classic and most recently during the Lighthouse tournament in Mississippi, where he showed elite floor-spreading and deep range shooting. Still needs to put the ball on the deck more and get comfortable in creating his own shot, but with his size and top-tier shooting he certainly has Division-I potential.
Malcolm Farrington: 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard has lethal 3-point shooting ability, as evidenced in SIAA performances last year against Oldsmar Christian (15 points, 5-7 3FG), Potter’s House (20 points, 6-for-8 3FG), and in The Grind Session against Wesleyan Christian and Tennessee Prep. Class of 2018 guard has all-around game and brings defensive mindset this season. Took home MVP honors during the aforementioned Lighthouse Tournament, scoring a game-best 20 points and drilling 6-of-10 from beyond the arc in statement win over Aspire Academy (KY). With a 4.0 GPA and steadily rising game, the 17-year-old Farrington would be a major get at the Division-I level.
Michee Mianga: 6-foot-8, 235-pound forward is sound around the basket and still developing as an interior threat. Has the potential to be a high-efficiency guy at the next level. Showing promise on the glass and as a rim-protecting presence. The Citadel, VMI, and Coastal Carolina are potential NCAA destinations for The Congo native.
Roberts Dempskis: 6-foot-9 Lithuanian forward is active presence on the glass and not afraid to get physical and tough in the trenches. Finishes in crafty fashion around the basket and is high percentage scorer down low. Performance against Charles Bassey-led Aspire pumped promise into his Division-I stock. Has offer from Austin Peay, several other Division-I programs are interested.
Jimma Gatwech: Bouncy 6-foot-3 guard out of Nebraska has shown spurts of high level athleticism and superior above the rim game. Also a catch-and-stick threat who can ease into a souped up attack. Class of 2019 prospect must pack muscle on spindly frame and embrace physical components of the game.
