Recruiting Spotlight: 2018 Kaelen Allen
The Los Angeles City Section is not what it once was back in the glory days of the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s, but one thing is for sure Ed Azzam continues to put out a formidable team that is the odds on favorite to cut the nets down in March.
The Comets are led by a nice blend of seniors in 6-foot-5 senior Maurice Tutt, 6-foot-3 junior Jordan Brinson, and 5-foot-10 junior Jeremiah Turley. In addition, they get a nice addition in January when 6-foot-8 junior Kaveon Batiste becomes eligible. However, arguably the most valuable player on the team thus far has been AB Miller transfer Kaelen Allen.
Allen is a beastly 6-foot-6 senior who dominates the interior with his big frame, soft hands, and excellent feet. “I know how to use my frame (carves out space) to play through contact and be a consistent finisher,” explains Allen.
Allen has a big frame, nimble feet, and some quality bounceNot only can Allen finish plays in the paint area he is also an astute passer, plays with a consistent motor, and his overall IQ for the game is impressive. He can attack from the elbow as well, but he knows he has to fine tune some aspects of the game to reach his potential.
“I have to improve my shooting range to open up my driving game and my help side defense could improve as well,” noted by Allen.
Due to his outstanding play he has received recruiting interest from Boise State and Eastern Washington, but this should only be the beginning for this fast-rising senior. The physical tools and overall feel for the game should attract attention from the Big West, Mountain West, and WCC going forward.
