Recruiting Report: TJ Stargell
Since October, Stargell has been on a tear and has not looked back. I saw him at the HoopSeen Fall Preview a few weeks before the season started; he had a great showing and earned his spot as one of the top Stock Risers at the camp. He has seen his recruitment really pick up over the last two months and has continued to perform at a high level. The Miller Grove PG is one of the few pure points you will find and has a lot of qualities that college coaches like to see.
Stargell is a point guard who competes on both sides of the ball each game and always makes winning plays. “I bring an all-around point guard who can score, pass, and push the tempo on offense,” said Stargell. With a lot of guys focused solely on scoring, it is nice to see a player who makes things happen for his teammates often as well. TJ consistently puts up double-digit assists and locks in on defense, racking up steals frequently.
Currently, Stargell holds offers from a host of junior colleges, to go along with interest from numerous other schools. He has offers from Murray State College, Barton CC, USC-Salkehatchie, and Columbia State, among others. Some of the schools that have shown interest in Stargell are Indiana State, Farleigh Dickinson, Clayton State, Spring Hill, and Lees-McRae. Also, Bob Jones University recently came to watch one of Stargell’s games.
As for his goals this season, Stargell said, “I hope to lead DeKalb County in assists, limit my turnovers, shoot the ball at a high percentage, and of course win a state championship with my brothers!” TJ is not only worried with the on-court aspects however. “I want to leave a legacy behind and become a better person on and off the court,” said Stargell. He is an excellent young man who approaches things the right way, which will continue to help him this season and once he gets to the college level.
