Recruiting Report: Tevin Smith (2021)
Danville 2021 small forward Tevin Smith projects early in the process as one of the top wing prospects in the freshman class. He has size and athleticism on the wing. Early in the season he is playing sparingly as he is on perhaps the best team in central Illinois. Long term he has a ton of upside. We caught up with his recently to discuss a variety of topics including his first college offer.
He spoke about his early season with Danville.
“It is going good so far. It is getting better and better every day. I have had a good start for a freshman.”
Where has he seen the most improvement over the last few months in his game?
“Finishing at the hole and my mid-range game.”
Smith broke down the strengths of his offensive arsenal.
“Athleticism, catch and shoot, mid-range, and pull ups.”
It was a big summer for Smith on the circuit.
“I played with Team Manimal most of the summer. We went 80-3 and went from 13th in the nation to 4th. We did good at Fab 48 in Las Vegas.”
His play over the summer recently earned him his first scholarship from Tennessee Martin.
“It was a good experience. I was happy. I wasn’t expecting it. They were looking at me when I was playing with my 17U team over the summer and had 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists.”
Stanford and Illinois are two other programs tracking him early. He attended of the Illini’s games earlier this season against UT-Martin.
“Fan base is good. Good coach and everything. I like how they run their offense.”
