Recruiting Report: Edmon Oyet (2018)
Mankato East’s deep line-up has them 7-0 on the young season but very soon the competition is about to pick up. Edmon Oyet, a player hearing from three college programs, is one of the several weapons for the Cougars.
“Things are going very well with the team and we are figuring things out together, it might take a bit of time but we are going to figure it out,” Oyet said. “We are currently 7-0.”
The Cougars have some solid wins over Waseca, Winona, Mayo, and Richfield, and some struggling Big Nine teams, but very soon the Cougars have a run of JM, Orono, Austin, Albert Lea, Marshall, Owatonna, and Northfield to start the New Year. Five of those seven teams are ranked as is Mankato East. If the Cougars are to move from the lower half of the Class AAA rankings to the upper half, their performance in those games will tell the story.
And the Cougars will need all of their pieces to win those games, especially a senior like Edmon Oyet.
“I’m shooting the ball better than last year, handling the ball better and rebound better,” Oyet told NHR. “I am a lot more comfortable on the floor playing 1-4 on both ends of the court. I have learned to be more on the floor a little more compared to last year.”
With Damani Hayes, Uhana Ochan, Kong Kong, Ben Ziegler, and Edmon Oyet all back as seniors plus the sophomore class being strong expectations are big.
“We have four of our starters back from last year,” Oyet said. “We have work together extremely hard this summer. We also have a couple great younger guys that are fitting in perfect for us.
“My goal is to improve my all around game on both ends of the court throughout the season. Our team goal is to overall have a great season and make a deep state run.”
Three schools remain in regular contact with Oyet.
“Grandview, St.scholastic, and Bethany are the programs looking at me right now,” Edmon said. “I haven’t planed any college visits yet.”
