Prospect Spotlight: Robbie Hicks (2018)
Rockledge is off to a hot start this season and senior guard Robbie Hicks has been a key factor.
The 6’3″, 175-pounder is part of a deep group that is well on its way in Class 6A ball.
A four-year varsity starter, Hicks called his junior campaign his biggest one yet as he learned how important each and every play was and to not take a single play off.
“The parts of my game that improved the most I️ would say was defensively, learning to take the right angles while guarding and offensively making sure every shot I️ took was the right shot,” Hicks told Prep Hoops Florida. “This season should be a great one and should be the best one yet. I️ need to continue to be a leader and captain on this team and push everyone in the right direction so we can lift up the trophy at the end of the year.”
Over the summer, Hicks ran with South Florida Elite. He said it was a big summer as he gained more confidence in his overall game.
He’s been playing basketball life started in AAU ball. The summer of his 7th grade year was when he said he found out how good he could be learning the fundamentals of the game.
“That was the main thing stressed by coach Fuzzy and still is to this day, “do the simple stuff, go back to your fundamentals.”
Hicks pointed to his shooting and ability to get to the rack as his biggest strengths. He says he believes he’s one of the best shooters in the state.
“I️ learned last year how important every play was so I️ just need to keep improving my game defensively making sure I’m not making any mistakes because when you play good teams they capitalize on your mistakes and turn mistakes into points,” he said.
Hicks is a core piece to the Raiders under head coach Logan Keith. He’s a pure shooter who can hurt you off quick passes or just pull up jumpers. Look for Rockledge to make a deep run with Hicks doing his thing alongside the rest of the athletes in the lineup.
