Prospect Spotlight: Nick Johnson (2018)
Yesterday was the first time that I saw 6’4 2018 prospect Nick Johnson play and he was a guy that really stood out to me on Kennedy. Johnson played a major role in the win over Bowie in one semifinal game at the Walter Hardy Holiday Hoopfest hosted by Paint Branch High School. Unofficially, Johnson finished with 11 points but each bucket was an impressive. He finished well in transition, he can finish well at the rim, he had a nice catch and shoot three pointer, used his body to convert on a physical running floater and he is a guy that can use his handles and body well to separate from his opposition. He also was able to use his body and physicality to haul in rebounds on both offense and defense.
Kennedy elaborated on what he thinks his strengths are while he is on the court, “I am very athletic, I can play defense and I like to really get out in transition so I can get open dunks and I can shoot the ball on offense.”
Coaches from some certain colleges are noticing Johnson’s ability to do many things on the court and he is completely open right now when it comes to recruitment and making a college decision, “I am hearing from Frostburg State, Stevenson, Delaware Valley and Goucher College.”
He went on to say that, “None of the schools particularly stick out to me right now, I have no idea where I want to go to college and I just want to work on my expectations.”
When asked about what those certain expectations are he said, “I expect us to keep on getting better every single game that we play and I feel like that we can win a lot of games that we have on our schedule.”
