Prospect Spotlight: Michael Roberts (2019)
2019 Ft. Myers guard Michael Roberts is a gritty player.
He is in his second year on the Green Wave varsity team.
“This past season had ups and downs for me as I was trying to find my place on the team as it was my first year on varsity. I was honestly most proud of making the team,” Roberts told Prep Hoops Florida. “My expectations for this season are high as our new coach [Andrew Grantz] knows exactly what he is doing and our team is full of potential.”
Roberts played for SWFL Select from 7th to 9th grade but he stopped playing once he entered so he could focus on lifting and working out in the gym.
No offers or interest have come yet for the 6’1″, 185-pounder. He says he doesn’t plan on playing in college as of yet and he wants to attend UF. I think a few colleges would love to have him on their side.
Roberts pointed to his strength, speed, shooting, driving ability and defense as his biggest strengths. He’s aiming to improve being an all-around scorer and strong defender.
Plans can change in a heartbeat. Roberts has the skills and smarts to play at the next level whether that is at the Division-II or Division-III realm. He impressed in a season-opening win against Ida Baker last Monday. He never stops on a possession, making the most of it.
