Prospect Spotlight: Keshawn Pegues (2019)
An emerging standout in Iowa’s 2019 class, 6-foot-2 Davenport Central forward Keshawn Pegues is off to a nice start to his junior season.
We first saw the lengthy combo-forward this past spring in Wisconsin at the Rock Classic, and as a result, have him ranked 130th in 2019.
We recently caught up with the up-and-coming junior and he explained his game, his role with the Blue Devils and his offseason plans.
“I think my strengths are more right now just getting to the basket, and I can finish around the rim and draw the foul if I need to. And I can hit the contested mid-range, and I can get my teammates open,” said Pegues.
“And on defense, I like to keep my opponents to a minimum; and I’ve held my guys to under eight points this season.”
He added: “I need to get better overall on offense, just shooting from 3, and overall just shooting.”
Thorough six games this season, he’s averaging 13.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.
“Right now, we’re all learning how to play at a faster pace, since we’re all so young on varsity. But over the summer, since I was playing at fast pace (with the Iowa Mavericks), it kind of put me ahead my teammates. So I’m already used to it,” said Pegues.
“And since I’m one of the better leaders, I never get down and I try and pick my teammates up so they can get on the same level.”
And when his junior season is complete, he’ll go right into a 17U spring playing with the Iowa Barnstormers.
“This season, I’m probably not going to play with the Mavericks, I’m probably going to play with the Barnstormers this season,” said Pegues.
“Since they have a lot of exposure and go to adidas Gauntlet’s and bigger tournaments where all the scouts are, I think that will help my recruitment a lot.”
He added: “And since they play against the best players and they are some of the best players, I think playing with them will help my game out a lot.”
