Prospect Spotlight: Alec Oglesby (2020)
Currently checking in at No. 31 in Georgia’s 2020 prospect rankings, 6-foot-4 combo guard Alec Oglesby is a guy with a very high ceiling.
The Collins Hill prospect spent his 15U season with Atlanta Celtics and then with HYPE for a couple tournaments, and has been seeing some early D1 interest come his way.
“I started getting lot of college interest when I played in Las Vegas. Schools that have strong interest in me are Middle Tennessee State, I went on a visit there and Wake Forest,” said Oglesby.
“A lot of schools like Troy, Florida Gulf Coast and a some other schools are interested. Florida State has shown a little interest in me, Stanford, Old Dominion, Purdue and Pepperdine.”
The good-sized guard, Oglesby brings versatility to the floor. He defined his current skill-set to PHGA.
“I try and make an impact on all aspects on the game. My best strength is shooting, but I can also slash and drive, kick out and make my teammates better,” said Oglesby.
“And I’m really starting to get down and play better, so I feel like I’m becoming an all-around player.”
After sitting out a year due to transferring from Duluth to Collins Hill, Oglesby just recently started playing again
Now, just a few games in, he’s starting to get acclimated to his new squad, one of the best in Georgia.
“I’m just trying to get my rhythm back and everything. I’m the first guy off the bench, and coach is just trying to acclimate me into the game and the rotation,” said Oglesby.
“I feel like I’m playing really well so far, but I’m still just getting my rhythm and the chemistry down with the team.”
And when his sophomore season with the Eagles is complete, he’ll head right into what could be a breakout 16U campaign. He’s not quite sure who he’ll play with next spring and summer, but he’s got options.
“I’m just striving to get some offers coming out of high school season and into the spring,” said Oglesby. “I really just want to make an impact and get my name on the top and in national rankings. I feel like people are underrating me.”
